Smartphones

A smartphone is defined as a mobile phone (cell phone) that performs the functions of a telephone and a personal computer, typically having a touchscreen interface, internet access, and an operating system capable of running downloaded apps. A SIM card in the phone links the smartphone to a cell phone account. In other words, smartphones can browse the internet and run software programs like a computer.

The world's first smartphone was invented in 1992. It was created by IBM and released for purchase in 1994. It was called Simon Personal Communicator (SPC). It was not very compact and sleek. However, this device still featured several elements that became staples to every smartphone. This device was the first official smartphone, with capabilities to send and receive e-mails, and included apps like an address book, calculator, calendar, and a notepad.

Based on the appearance, a standard smartphone consists of LCD and touchscreen display, loud speaker, ear speaker, front camera and rear camera, dock port, headphone jack, Wi-Fi antenna, SIM card and SD card tray, volume buttons, home button, and lock button. It has a removable or non-removable battery inside the smartphone. The accessories which are found in a new smartphone box are earphones and charger. More advanced smartphones are now foldable, which enables them to change between that standard smartphone and tablet screen sizes.
